One Street 2

Thank you for all the interesting comments on yesterday's mural (not graffiti!!), everyone was over-whelmingly impressed with it which makes it even more puzzling that such impressive artworks should be hidden down a little alleyway. I must investigate further.

Today's blip is another entry into the One Street project. I have decided to focus on two streets - one rural and one urban. The rural street will be my 'home' street - not really a street but more of a road running through the village of Ahakista. I shall stick to the area in between the two signs announcing the village. Some say Ahakista is not techically a village but a townland. We have no postcodes here and all addresses refer to the townland you are in - an ancient land division which usually still has its Irish name and often describes the parcel of land's geographical or historical roots. Ahakista for examples means atha na ciste - ford of the treaure or cist. To make matters more complicated, Ahakista the village, that isn't, is made up of many townlands - Rosskerrig, Gorteanish, Ardenanig, Reenacapul...Still with me??

The' street' is part of the main coastal road from Durrus heading down the south side of the peninsula. It passes two pubs, some interesting houses, a lot of fields, two rivers and some spectacular sea views!

Anyway, here we are entering from the east. A new thingy is being built - I think it's in the shape of a ship and will probably be filled with flowers. I shall probably sound a bit snotty now but I find this need to prettify and tidy and make neat a bit puzzling - just look what's behind them! Worth biggifying to see the sign of the times (literally) .

Friends coming to supper tonight - macaroni cheese topped with artichokes and mozarella, followed by baked apples stuffed with figs and dates and lashings of custard!
