Bowing to the inevitable

Here is the sunflower field I snapped back in August, as seen here and in the extra.
There must be a reason for this, but not sure what. Returning the nutrients back to the soil for next season perhaps. 
I think the field is part of 'Grow Wild', a local organic company. Must drop in for a look.
