Surprising resident in a ditch by the car park

This guy was in full display mode to his lady friend who was also in the ditch next to the garden centre car park. 
The Garden Centre had a wide selection of Christmas trees and a large variety of spring flowering bulbs. They did not have any onion sets, this is what I went to buy. Not surprising as the planting season for over wintering onions ended about two months ago. Never mind, there is always next spring.
