The winning costume

My project over the past week has been to build a plane costume. It seemed like a good idea at the time, the weather was stink all of last weekend, and it was fun.

Two cardboard boxes a couple of sheets of corflu later, I had my plane.

My work had our Christmas doo tonight, dinner and entertainment in the Aeroplane Hall at the Airforce Museum. Fancy dress is encouraged and celebrated at these events but isn't compulsory.

The wing tips and tail have flashing lights and the propeller turns. I have friends with little boys who will end up with it.

A black t-shirt turned inside out so it was plain, a large pair of khaki trousers from the op shop, cut short and tied with elastic at the knee, striped tights, a scarf, and a hired biggles flying helmet and goggles completed my ensemble.

I designed the wings to be removed and to brace the boxes. The tail fits together similar to a model balsa wood model plane and slots into the back of the plane. The propellor is fitted with a bolt, washers and wing nut.

I thought a lot about Mum and Dad as I worked on the plane. What I designed and created reflects Dad's engineering traits and Mum's creative skills. They would have enjoyed following its construction.

We had a fabulous night at mybwirk doo. Great people, excellent food and drink, and funny entertainment from the Scared Scriptless crew from the Court Treatre.

After a morning of exercise and a big night out, hpx is a wee bit tired.

Today's gratitude: For a great company to work for. It has a good culture and looks after its staff.
