Morning cycle with black ice wipeout
So when I set off at 8:30 it was 2 degrees and the puddles were watery.
Ann London or Theresa Talbot or someone said there is a be aware warning of ice until 10 o’clock but I decided I wasn’t going to wait and how did Theresa know it would apply to me anyway!
The journey uphill towards Carronbridge was new low sun glorious but by the time I got to the bridge it was icy.
Negotiating icy roads while climbing is relatively easy.
Having reached the top there is then around 3 milesof normally exhilarating descent but not this time. The first mile is a long straight open road then there is a corner before the next with tall conifers
They created a cover and there is an 80 meter stretch of black ice and my bike then I went flying.
The bike is damaged but was reparable enough to get home in high gear.
As I write this, I can tell that this is a second time my helmet saved me!
