He’s home!

Almost a year ago, on 29 December 2017, my pet corn snake Raoul escaped from his vivarium and disappeared. We searched everywhere, but no luck.

A tiny piece of wood chipping from his bedding had got stuck in the runner of his vivarium sliding glass front, and he somehow managed to force the gap wider against the lock and escape. Goodness knows how, it was a very narrow gap. Anyway, ‘Houdini’ Raoul was gone, presumed lost under the utility room floor.

That was the end of the story until this morning. A friend arrived at the front door, and when I answered, she asked, “Is that supposed to be there?” It was Raoul, wrapped around the porch pillar and a plant pot, suddenly reappeared after almost a year, but looking healthy and well-nourished as if he had never been away.

How utterly bizarre, unexpected and wonderful! Welcome home Raoul.
