Journey Into Middle Earth

Today finds us in Lyttleton, on the South Island of New Zealand.  It's the port city for Christchurch.  We took a day-long tour culminating at Mount Sunday in the foothills of the Southern Alps.  This is where some of the footage for the second movie of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, The Two Towers, was filmed.  I'm sorry to say that we are not up to speed on our Lord Of The Rings arcana, so although we really loved seeing the spectacular scenery, the rest of the movie minutiae on the tour left us a bit cold!  Anyway, here you can see some of the astonishingly beautiful landscape we traveled through today.  We were also blessed with picture perfect weather, which was truly appreciated, as the forecast had been calling for torrential rain and thunderstorms!
