Barathon

So in terms of a school day, as most Fridays seem to be, it was actually a rather lazy one! I came in at lunchtime for my 45 minute conversation class with one of the quatrième INTER students who is finding it a bit hard to keep up with the rest of the class and spoke about what kind of things she would like to do in the time that we were there. Decided that I will definitely be bringing back my Spike Milligan collection, as all the poems are simple enough to understand and would really help with pronunciation. And plus, I just like Spike Milligan...

This picture is actually my display at the back of the room. My responsable asked me before I arrived in France to bring some things to decorate the classroom and tell the kids about my life in England. This is actually hand-made by my mum, so every time I look at the back of the class and see my board I think of her.

My next class was the quatrième EURO, and the teacher was late! Rather than letting them wait in the corridor, I thought it would be better to let them into the class and we had a very enjoyable fifteen minutes chatting about how their weeks have been. When the teacher turned up it turns out that she didn't actually want me for the hour I was there, so I ended up reading Game of Thrones in the staffroom for half an hour before going back to work with the class for their second hour. I took groups of four out of the class and had them discuss a topic set for them by their teacher. Unfortunately, not the easiest of topics to debate...

Violence is necessary.

I used the same marking scale as my last debating class which is:-
1 point for an argument
2 points for arguing back
1 point for saying a set phrase of the day
Minus 1 point for speaking in French

Surprisingly, one group who was arguing "for" this statement actually won! No one actually believed that violence was necessary, but there is a long running competition between boys and girls...and the boys were determined that this time they would win, and they tried their utmost to put across as many arguments as possible and use as many of my set phrases as possible. Good on 'em, I was very proud!

Now the evening was La 12695e édition du célèbre Barathon , and my reason for being rather silent! Now this was a casual bar crawl French style-y, with way too much to drink. To give an indication, the first drink for everyone in the first bar was a double shot of raspberry vodka. Enough said! I missed the final tram to Grâce de Dieu, but luckily there is a last last tram that terminates only three stops away from mine...so I walked from there. Don't worry; it's a really safe walk with the Police Headquarters on the way!
