Cold Light of Dawn

The dark clouds were scudding along at a brisk pace, driven by the wind when I got up this morning. The rain alternated with the occasional ray of sun through a hole in the sky all day.

We had a nice Pilates class with the delightful Amanda, who is a dancer with a quick wit, an off the wall way with words and a love of movement. She has a way of giving life to static poses which I enjoy. Last week we worked on hips, this week we worked on feet and ankles...all in aid of helping the knee, the poor joint trapped in between them.

Nancy and I had coffee at the Flying Goat after class where we put the world to rights before going home and trying to avoid the constant replaying of the funeral of President George Herbert Walker Bush. I admit that the current occupant of the Oval Office makes him look awfully good, and I don't doubt that he was a good man, but he was not, in my opinion,  a great president....And I don't really see the necessity of dragging the poor man's body backwards and forwards across the country, but nobody asked me either....

I went to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription which wasn't ready. It wasn't the pharmacist's fault. He said he has to Fax the request for refills to someplace in Orange County for approval which takes a few days. However, the insurance plan won't allow a refill until I have fewer than that number of days' worth of pills left.
Another frustrating bureaucratic Catch-22 situation....

I was actually happy to be home again, dismantling the IKEA bookshelf which, no longer wedged between the desk and the wall, had absolutely no vertical stability. Once I lowered it to the floor the reason, and the solution became apparent. The back, designed to slide into narrow grooves on either side was against the wall next to it. It was flimsy at best and folded in half giving it even less rigidity and making it impossible to put in place single handed. OilMan came to the rescue again and between us we wrestled it into place. Flimsy as it is, it does make the bookcase much more stable....that and the fact that I threw away half the stuff on it and put the heavy books and printer on the bottom two shelves.

Not really a bad way to spend a cold rainy day. I even managed my nemesis, the vacuum cleaner, with a fair amount of equanimity as I worked my way from a chaotic mess to a tidy clean(Ish) organized space....
