The Courthouse
It's never a good sign when I post a picture of the Shiawassee County Courthouse in Corunna, Michigan. It means that we are probably going to another funeral. My dad and my sister and I went to one today.
Janie was 66 years old. My sister is 67, and I am 65...so she was right between the 2 of us. We moved away from that area in 1967 when I was 14. At that time, Janie was a vibrant, pretty, and perky 15 year old.
From what we could gather, the last 20 years have not been good to her. Brain cancer and its aftershocks were to blame. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't picture her as a senior citizen. I still see her as a teenager...which...to me...is good. Sometimes, we all need to see ourselves and our friends as youngsters.
We drove by our old house, and reminisced about the years we spent there. Good times.
The flag at the courthouse was still at half mast for President Bush, but I allowed my mind to think that it was at half mast for Janie. May she rest in peace.
On a happier note...a big happy birthday to our first-born child Julie. 40 years ago today...on a cold December morn...she warmed our hearts with her arrival.
