Huon pine
If you know Tasmania, you will know about the Huon Pine, a heritage tree (some are 1000 years old or more) with a beautiful blond hue and a sweet smell, that Tasmanians try to protect, though they also manufacture it in all sorts of ways.
Back in Tassie, we visited a sawmill where we bought this raw 'slice' of Huon, then brought it home where we use it as a chopping board (after a little TLC involving linseed oil). On a later visit to London, our Tassie friends put in their flight luggage (!) this professionally-made Huon chopping board. Both are in daily use, reminding me of forests and friends the other side of the world.
