Churchyard - Ribchester

For me this refers to all the people, from all the countries, who died in that terrible war. Arachne tells it so much more eloquently than I could.
We also visited the small but very interesting Roman museum in Ribchester. The name of the town tells us there was a folk memory that the Romans had built a fort here, and also that 2000 years ago the nearby river was still called the Ribble.
That all those generations of people looked out on this wateray and knew it by the name we know it by is somehow a sobering and rather pleasant  thought.
