Today was going to be a picture of my amazing advent calander as I woke up feeling super festive, put up our mini Christmas tree which, for something I found in the cupboard, is not too bad really. Listened to a few Christmas songs too. Remembered why I'm not really a fan of Christmas music!
Decided I wanted to make some food and do some baking but by the time I'm been to the supermarket and the bakery, it was actually too late. I also bought the chocolate monstrosity that you see in the picture. Actually felt very sick after eating it. It was good, but sickly beyond belief.
In the afternoon, I met Hati and Dom and went to Emmaus again, which must of course be said in a very over the top German accent. Bought three purses, 13 books, a cake tin in the shape of a heart and a roasting dish, all for 5.50 euros... not too bad I don't think. Must watch out for my bank balance as I keep spend Euros like they're toy money.
By the time I got back in the evening I was feeling really tired, but got a phonecall from Ludovic and Elsa asking if I wanted to go over for dinner. I really wasn't in the mood to go out, but as I decided I must say yes to everything I dutifully headed over there at 7.30 despite the freezing weather. I was so glad that I went.
We had an amazing dinner, apero (standard rum cocktails and peach wine), a goat's cheese salad (I hate goat's cheese but this was really good!), butternut squash gratin (contender for new favourite dish!) and apple crumble, plus tea and biscuits and haribo. We watched a hilarious programme called Hard about someone who inherits a pornography business when their husband dies, actually hilarious if a little awkward! The best part was that I kept up conversation all evening without feeling awkward or worrying about having nothing to say. I really do love hanging out with them as they make everything so easy for me. Maybe I can do this French thing. Home to bed at 1am, the walk was freezing but beautiful. Content.
