Stoughton Church

It was a lovely sunny day so we decided to return to Stoughton where we had walked last weekend.  Today we parked in the village and walked up into the Downs slightly to the west of the village via an old track which ran up to a beautiful coppiced hazel woodland.

Merlin had a great time exploring and finding scents to follow.  We circled round the woods and were able to come back down into the village next to the pub - unfortunately we'd forgotten to take any money with us so we couldn't stop for a drink but may be next time!  This is a picture of the village church which apparently dates from the 12th Century and is tucked away behind the main street up a dirt track.  It has a rather lovely sundial on the wall - a momenta to celebrate the Millennium (see Extra). It was pretty accurate in its time keeping too!

After a well earned lunch, I went to the allotment for an hour and then we had our afternoon dog walk.  The houses in the village are starting to look festive although all we have done so far to celebrate the season is to light an advent candle each evening over dinner.

Wishing you a peaceful Sunday evening.
