The Ark
It was a dull drizzly start to the day, which was OK with us while we were doing our weekly food shop in Redditch. The journey home took us through Alvechurch, and since it had brightened up nicely we stopped briefly to search for a blip.
I have chosen this photo of the parish church of St Lawrence, and the Ark which adjoins it. There has been a church on the site since 1239 but most of what you see today is a Victorian rebuild. The Ark was the winner of the 2007 EASA President's Award for the best Ecclesiastical Architecture. It functions as a meetings venue for Alvechurch. There was a ballet dancing class for children happening there this morning.
A bit like the Roundhouse College site in Derby, which I have featured in previous blips, I see it is an excellent example of effective juxtaposition of modern and older architecture.
