Orange Cup

Pete and I went to Stamford Cemetery in the morning, to check out a recently discovered population of a rare plant. It was growing in an area of former plantation woodland, which had recently been cleared.

We found the rare plant very quickly and then spent some time recording the wide variety of other species growing there. While we were hunting I came across a large number of the spectacular Orange Cup fungi. This species is usually found on damp sandy soil in open habitats, often by the sea, and is either solitary or in small trooping-tufted groups. It seems to be fairly uncommon in Lincolnshire, but when viewed closely is very spectacular.
