Rendered human body fat

These chairs are part of an exhibition at the Manchester Science Museum. The Wasted Works is a collection of artworks exploring the life-giving potential of 'discarded' body parts. The cushions on these chairs are stuffed full of rendered human fat - fat from liposuction. A nearby poster gives full instructions on how to store and render your own fat. Sitting on your bum seems to take on a whole new meaning.

I wasn't sure what 4 year old Leah was making of it all, but when she eagerly and readily agreed to donate all her milk teeth to an exciting art project, I realised that she was okay with it. She came home with a leaflet and knows where to send her teeth. Goodbye tooth fairy - you are redundant.
