It's A Wonderful Life
A terrific day at work. My class can be so delightful, and today was just a joy to be with them.
They were very pleased with Santa's gift, and I was pleased that they were pleased. Last year Santa gave each Year Four child a copy of Neil Gaiman's Fortunately, The Milk. This year he gave them a copy of Neil Gaiman's The Wolves In The Walls. Clearly Santa is a man of discerning literary taste.
When we returned to the classroom I took great pleasure in reading The Wolves In The Walls to the class. I was really thrilled when one child in the class said, "Neil Gaiman wrote Fortunately, The Milk." (I had read that book to them at the beginning of the year.) Another child piped up, "The girl on the cover looks like Coraline." I happily explained that Neil Gaiman also wrote Coraline and that the illustrations for Coraline were by Dave McKean, the same artist who illustrated The Wolves In The Walls. If I do nothing else but make this class Neil Gaiman fans, then I will be proud.
I think I will have to start next term with The Boy Who Swapped His Dad For Two Goldfish. I love that one!
