One of 13

This is one of the last 13 cabman’s shelters in London and only black cab drivers who have passed the ‘Knowledge’ are allowed inside. The first shelter was built in St John’s Wood in 1875 and each hut was no bigger than a horse and cart. They were put up to provide shelter and sustenances for Hackney cab drivers with strict rules against swearing and gambling. This hut is in Russell Square.
