"Thawing ICE" Walk
Today was the seventeenth month of Buddhist Peace Fellowship "Thawing ICE" walks, held the second Thursday of every month. This month we were joined by the Portland Raging Grannies and by an immigrant mother and child who have to "check in" every month at the ICE Building, knowing each time they come that they could be imprisoned or deported if they fail to prove that they are following instructions to the letter of the (absurd and unjust) law. The child rang the bell for us with great concentration and devotion to her task.
Three months ago, Sue took responsibility for leading these walking meditations. We circumambulate the ICE Detention Center three times while focusing love on immigrants being forced to meet ridiculous conditions in order to remain in the USA. Many of the people from south of our political borders are indigenous people from whom this very land was stolen.
