Execrable Art, Part II
Another gray, rainy day. At least we are at sea, so we aren't really affected by the weather.
Whilst cruising around South America on the same ship we are currently aboard, I posted a blip entry showing some of the awful art displayed. I am happy to report that the poor GI sufferer wearing the salmon on his head appears to have been mothballed, as he is no longer evident. However, here is a sampling of some more terrible paintings for you to enjoy.
The top one graces the landing on the 10th deck stairs. It appears to be a scene of the aftermath of a sinking, in which various bits of debris float despondently in the turbulent blue-black waves. Here you can admire someone's bright red toothbrush on the left, accompanied by a somewhat flattened banana, and what appears to be a bottle of cough medicine ... or perhaps it's Tabasco sauce. The left hand painting on the bottom row seems to show the Queen Mum as a girl, pistol in hand, lurking outside a carnival tent with her sunburned bodyguard. She seems to be in the process of holding up a rather cheerful looking chap riding a two-headed pony. The middle painting on the bottom row continues the dreary prospect of foundering with this depiction of three hapless ladies descending to the depths of the ocean floor. They must have been in the midst of showering, or perhaps undergoing a spa treatment at the time of the disaster, because they are lacking their snappy cruise attire. And finally we have a very accurate portrait of eager and determined passengers stampeding off the ship in a mad dash to nab the front row seats on the tour buses.
