Whew only 9 days to go...Tree's Up

I was reading up on Christmas trees because it seemed that yesterday everyone was putting theirs up.

Apparently the evergreen fir tree has traditionally been used to celebrate winter festivals for thousands of years. Pagans used branches of it to decorate their homes during the winter solstice, as it made them think of the spring to come.  Christians use it as a sign of everlasting life with God.

Although I couldn't find out why people used fir trees the pages Searched said the tradition probably began about 1000 years ago in Northern Europe.

Other early Christmas Trees, across many parts of northern Europe, were cherry or hawthorn plants (or a branch of the plant) that were put into pots and brought inside to help them flower at Christmas time.

Many people used wood and other similar items decorate their homes so it seems this Christmas tree thing has been going on a long time. I like this one because it lights up the dark corners and that's what adult learning does-it gives us hope in dark times and makes the light easier to reach.

Season's Greetings everyone!
