We decided to go for a drive today to Aberfoyle and Callander. First Aberfoyle, where we had lunch at Liz McGregors (great filled rolls), and then we crossed the Duke's Pass to Aberfoyle. I love this journey, Also looked into the the Wool Centre and made a few purchases.
We used to walk over the Pass from Aberfoyle to Ben A'an in my climbing days and camp on the Ben, as there is some rock climbing on the hill. We would leave Glasgow at 10pm on Friday night, and the bus arrived at Aberfoyle at 11pm, and we would then walk the 7 miles over the Pass to Loch Achray and Ben A'an, and put up our mountain tents up the hill to be ready for climbing the next day. Then we walked back on the Sunday! Ah, memories, couldn't do it now!
However, today enjoyed crossing the Pass by car, and we had some wonderful view of Ben A'an in the distance. Not a particularly high hill, but very impressive nevertheless.
And as we came down to Loch Achray there were some Highlanders in the field in front of the hotel, and so I took a picture of the scene (extra).
Didn't stop at Callander, but stopped for a coffee at Dobbies Stirling, and had a good look at all the discounted Christmas stuff. And didn't buy a thing!
It was dull but dry all day, and the scenery was superb.
