I've been trying to remember.....

..when did the first TV remotes appear?     I mean I saw the Coronation on TV (as a five year old) - there was only one channel anyway, and you certainly had to turn on and off by getting up and walking over.    I also remember there were long intermissions to allow you to let the TV set cool down!

But apart from that, I can't remember a time when the TV did not have a remote control.  I'm sure that's wrong, but there we are.
