Mobile Hut

We had been warned before we left Orkney that the weather was forecast to be bad, that the ferry would be leaving about an hour late and would be getting into Aberdeen late too, but it wasn't too bad and I managed to sleep through most of it.

We "did" B&Q, M&S and a few other places then retired to the camp site, exhausted.  It was so busy and so noisy that we couldn't cope with much more!  We have got out of the way of city shopping, it's such a contrast to Kirkwall!

Today we headed for Alford.  Unfortunately the Transport Museum, the Alford Valley Railway and the Heritage museum were all closed for the winter, but we had a good wander round.  Luckily some of the vehicles were outside, including this council roads department hut from 1929, complete with curious engine.  We found a wonderful sewing shop, full of fabrics, crafts, ideas, books, embroidery threads etc etc. Very helpful owner, and lovely old collie dog called Muffin.  Had excellent turkey broth soup and cake at the Alford Bistro for lunch and then after more meandering round the village we headed back.

Very cold and so early to bed, in lots of extra layers, with blankets and coats on top of the sleeping bags!  Mike even wore his sheepskin hat with ear flaps to keep his head warm!
