Miner Sculpture.....
..... in Elba Park, near the home where Mum is. The men of our families were all miners until my Dad, and David’s dad, broke the mould and became a bricklayer, and decorator, respectively. What a working life, those generations of miners who spent 8 hour shifts lying in hot, wet, dangerous, tunnels, picking out the “black gold” for the pit owners. Some were as young as 11 years old, going underground till they retired at 65, physically broken. This life sized sculpture emerges from the rock, an emotive reminder of the past.
Still no response from Mum even though a friend of mine who used to be Mum’s yoga teacher, went with me today. Normally she would want to know all of Sonia’s news.
