A "sunny" welcome in the garden at Watford Cottage
"Sunshine" in the garden of Watford Cottage in Governors Bay near Lyttleton which we finally reached nearly 24 hours after the planned arrival.
Yesterday proved to be a long day after leaving home at almost 3 pm and expecting a direct flight to Christchurch taking an hour and a half, we were forced to divert to Nelson due to de-icing failure and ice building up on the wings of our ATR 72. The flight being subsequently cancelled Air NZ promptly rebooked us on another flight to Christchurch but that too was delayed 3 times and we finally landed at 9.40pm and son David and Jane kindly collected us and we spent the night in their guest room after a very welcome cup of tea and a chat.
A quick catchup with the grandsons this morning before they took off for Hanmer for the day, then to Rolleston( expanding "explosively")with grandson Henry. A little shopping for supplies there, then off to Watford Cottage, over the Cashmere Hills in the mist and drizzle(11 degrees celsius) at Governors Bay. Dr D was having electronic issues with our car when we arrived so a quick call to Mercedes in Christchurch and we were back over Dyers Pass to the city where they plied us with superb coffee and chat and had the car serviced and sorted and back on the road back to our cottage for the next 3 days. A full 24 hours but we're in relax mode now till returning to the family at Broadfield on Sunday .
