Cairns Cassowary

Here we are in Cairns, where we will be docked for the next couple of days.  This morning, we took a very interesting train ride from Cairns up to Kurunda Station -- a Heritage Listed Federation style station, completed in 1915.  The vintage train we traveled in dates to the early 1900's.  The journey took us on a narrow gauge track for 37 kilometres and rose in elevation from sea level to 327 metres above sea level, passing through 15 tunnels that were hand dug, over 55 bridges, and around 98 curves.  We also visited a fascinating place called Rainforestation, where we enjoyed an 80 year old army duck boat ride through the rainforest, and in the river there.  We then admired some native wildlife such as this cassowary -- what a relic from the dinosaur days this weird bird is!
