I'm so pretty, oh so pretty....

The Rower and I (or more precisely the Rower) spotted these little bugs when we were out on our walk a couple of nights ago, and we went back this afternoon in the hope they would still be there. And they were.

So a quick scrabble down on hands and knees in the dirt, a few clicks and here we have a harlequin bug. They are quite a few different species, and even within the species the colours and iridescence varies.

They are also known as jewel bugs - so pretty - and when the sun shines on them they absolutely glow with colour.
