Pure Gold

I've been wearing this scarf over the festive period.  Mum had it; she inherited it from my Great Aunty Nene who had rheumatoid arthritis and was almost completely paralysed from the age of 10.  Nene's stoicism, passion for knowledge and storytelling ability had a huge influence on our family and the way we saw the world.  She was  also a record-keeper and wrote about her childhood which was posthumously made into a book.

I was 12 when she died, on Christmas Eve 1977.  I admired her so much and remember her so very clearly.
