Puppy love (what else?)
Another refugee has arrived, complete with her own EU Pet Passport (how long will that be good for?)
In the past few days Raki has travelled from her birthplace on the Greek Island of Lesbos through Italy, Switzerland, France, England , by ship, train and car to the furthest edge of Wales.
Raki is estimated to be 4 months old and was rescued from abandonment, along with her 6 siblings, by a friend of younger son and daughter-in-law. Ash Perrin runs a unique charity called The Flying Seagull Project that takes a troop of clowns, jugglers and magicians to entertain marginalised, traumatised children in refugee camps, allowing them in the process to relax, release tension and forget at least for a short time the horror , loss and deprivation they have experienced. (Link above is to a short TED talk he gave.)
When Ash came upon the litter of unwanted pups his big heart could not leave them to their fate and he undertook to rescue them, have them immunised and treated, and bring them back to the UK for any of his followers who wanted to give them a home. That was a month ago. All seven were rapidly claimed and over the past 4 weeks excited bulletins of Puppy News! have been posted on Whatsapp by Ash's kids as the pups have edged closer to their destinations, one of which is here in Fishguard.
For son Gwyn and his wife Jess it was love at first sigh(t) - never mind that they are expecting an infant of their own in a couple of months.
