Happy Christmas Eve!

We celebrated the Polish way: herring in oil with spices and onion, and the poppy seed cake. In the middle, we had very un-Polish fish tacos. ;- ) I lost my ambition for the full-out Polish meal because of two reasons: lack of proper dried mushrooms, so critical to cook a few key dishes, and the fact that I got sick. Still, we celebrated in style, and in Polish spirit we stayed away from meat. I am not sure where the tradition came from?
