Meeting not Hunting

Despite a murky start, the weather cleared by midday and a hazy sun shone over the Soar Valley and Whatton House, where the Quorn Hunt held their Boxing Day meet. At least 400-500 people were there including youngsters who had been brought to see a traditional sight.

The actual ride couldn't have lasted more than ten minutes. A host of riders followed the huntsman blowing his horn around the large field just south of the house. There was one fence. Without realising it, I've caught one of the huntsmen about to jump it. In the extra, you can see a lady rider making the jump.

The hounds don't look overfed. I suppose that makes them more keen. I saw a number of them scooping up the horse manure in the field.

Then they all came back to take a glass of port and everybody drifted home. I blagged a glass courtesy of Morgan, a fellow photographer from Keyworth.

Basil came with me.

Am about to return to Leicester for Boxing Day buffet and bubble and squeak. Kat's parents should be there by the time I arrive. George and Len have gone off to watch Leicester City meet Manchester City at King Power Stadium. The sun has gone in again.
