After the Crash Landing

It seems that the flying lesson yesterday didn't work out as planned.

One of the three cygnets crash landed on St Andrew's Drive late in the afternoon. Rescue services were contacted, but by the time they arrived it was dark and the five members of the swan family had struggled back to the pond.

This morning, three staff from the Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue returned, and it took them over two hours to catch the injured cygnet. The poor thing was exhausted and couldn't even eat any food offered. It was wrapped in a yellow support bandage with velcro fasteners, and then carried off in an Ikea bag. The rest of the family were hissing and protesting. It is hoped the bird will recover and return to the pond.

In other news, there was a loud bang outside in the street this evening. It's very icy out there. A peep through the curtains to see our neighbour's car had slipped on the ice down the hill into the back of ours. Oh dear. Difficult to see in the dark if there is any damage. We have now moved ours to a more even surface, although just as icy.
