Bye Bye, Brio, Brio, Bye Bye!

Briocarioca (left) is leaving her beloved Rio de Janeiro tomorrow after over 40 years of residence.   We popped in for a final farewell on Brazilian soil and found her in the last throes of packing, accompanied by her friend Jackie, another long time resident.

I remember my first visit to Briocarioca and her husband's lovely home eight years ago just as we moved in around the block and heard that the President of the St. Andrew’s Society of Río lived a stone's throw away.   We were immediately taken under their wing and introduced to their circle of friends, most often at their New Year's Eve party, which always culminated in us all walking five minutes to stand on Copacabana beach for the firework display.   It will be strange being on our tod this year but life moves on and we will toast their health under the sparkling firework stars on Monday night.    

Briocarioca has promised to start blipping again from their new home in Liverpool.  Let’s hope she does!
