Robin
Well the small amount of sunshine we've had this week was very very welcome, unfortunately, our forecast is for snow later today followed by heavy rain.
We have some new visitors to the garden this week, a pair of Bramblings and two pairs of Chaffinches. I've seen Chaffinches fairly regularly over the last year or so, of course they may not be the same birds at all, but they've never actually stopped to feed in our garden. The Bramblings have only turned up this last week or so, they may be migrants, i simply don't know.
I mentioned some weeks ago that the resident Badgers had smashed up our ground feeding station, that consisted of a raised wood platform on which lay a plastic food tray, all surrounded by a heavy duty wire frame work which would keep out larger birds such as pigeons and magpies etc etc..........obviously bird proof but not badger proof.
I recently knocked up a new bird table, without a roof, instead i've attatched the wire mesh which belonged to the ground feeder, within two days the Chaffinches and Bramblings were making themselves at home on the new table, the squirrel occasionally pays a visit, but the Blackbirds, Tits, Dunnocks, Sparrows and Mr Robin have become regulars.
The Sparrow Hawk payed us a visit on Monday afternoon, he was sat bold as brass on top of the peanut feeders, normally he sits in wait on top of the panel fence at the bottom of the garden in amongst the branches of the Cottoneaster which affords him a lot of cover. However being in full view he became a target himself, the Jays just dived straight at him and away he went.
Well the time's creeping on and its time for bed, as i type the last of the sunshine has gone and the clouds are gathering.
I wonder if it'll be snow or rain to look at when i open the curtains at
3-30...............
Larger Robin............
