Spitfire Memorial

A full-sized replica Spitfire aircraft which has been installed near Fairhaven Lake in Lytham St Annes. It is a model of the area's own plane, bought by residents to help the war effort. Residents of Lytham and St Annes raised £6,500 to buy Spitfire W3644. It was shot down off the Devon coast in 1942 while returning from escorting bombers over France.
The commemorative Spitfire is to be the centre-piece of a lakeside war memorial to honour the pilots who served during World War II.
