Before and after
I suppose it could be said be during cleaning.
Between skating sessions on the ice rink that is installed in the Inner Close of the Cathedral the ice is cleaned. A machine that looks like a big ride on mower uses a blade and scrapes a layer of ice off the surface. Water is then sprayed on to the surface to clean the dirt and debris from the cuts in the ice; any excess water is mopped up with a squeegee blade. Then the ice is resurfaced; warm water is pumped over to a squeegee blade and spread evenly over the ice. This softens and fills in the deep cuts in the ice and helps to even out its surface.
The machine has just gone over the ice round the edge, I liked the patterns from the skates and the contrast and Adam liked the reflections. So that is why we picked this shot.
