The Golf Coast

In the US they have the Gulf Coast, and in Scotland we have the Golf Coast, which is the road following the East Lothian coast passing rather a few golf courses including our own Musselburgh Links.

The course is an original ‘Open Championship’ venue, hosting the championship on six occasions between 1874 and 1889. Documentary evidence proves that golf was played on Musselburgh Links as early as 2 March 1672 although Mary, Queen of Scots reputedly played here in 1567.

Other golf courses along the coast include: Gullane (3 courses) and Muirfield (most recently hostin the Open Championship in 2013). In total there are 21 golf courses in the county, so you know where to visit to play golf!

My blip is of the mussel shell, sited as you enter Musselburgh from the west of the town.

Back to work tomorrow after the festive break ... sigh ...
