Life through the lens...

In the wars!

A view from Sandal Castle overlooking Pugneys Country Park and lake.

The first Castle, established in the 12th century, over looking the town of Wakefield and the crossing point of the River Calder, was built of wood.
These stone ruins largely date from the 13th century.
In 1460 the Battle of Wakefield, one of the major northern engagements of the War of the Roses, was fought in the fields surrounding the castle.
Won by the Lancastrians, and Richard Duke of York was killed.
Later in 1646 in the middle of the English Civil War the castle was finally sacked by order of Parliament.

Now Wakefield Council are spending £700,000 repairing bridges and walkways, and also carrying out conservation work.

Mr C also looks as if he has been “ in the wars”. See extra.
Actually had his first cataract operation this morning, at SpaMedica near Wakefield.
So as I had a three hour wait, I went for a walk round Pugneys and found the castle.
Also several herons ( see extra)
Not good light for photography.

Now back home and feeling relieved it is over. ( until next time)
He has drops to put in 4 times a day for three weeks, and has to keep the eye pad on until tomorrow, then just wear it at night for a week.
He then has an appointment with our optician for a checkup and eye test.
They will then adjust his glasses until the second eye is done.
Until then I will be doing the driving as he has been advised not to.
Fortunately we haven’t much planned.

Have already had phone calls asking if he is OK.Even from the USA. Nice to know people care.
