Middle Tap

Nearly all the public houses in Maryport have been given another name by the local people. The name" Middle Tap" being one of the names given. This name use to belong to a licenced squash club that was on the opposite side of the road. there is a bar there but there is confusion that the Lifeboat has now got the name of "Middle Tap" but it depends who tells you. The bottom tap, is The Sailors and the "Top tap" is the Broom Vaults. "Minshaw's" is The Crown and " The Vatican" is the Admiral Nelson. Very confusing but the locals always call the town pubs by the nicknames.  ( I have just looked at the satellite map and it shows that the pub opposite the Lifeboat is down as the "Middle Tap", but I do not know if this is up to date ). As I mentioned earlier, it is confusing.
