Anita Street
The first houses in Manchester to benefit from indoor toilets. One toilet per two houses instead of facilities shared by the whole street. (Imagine that!)
The council was so proud of their initiative they named it Sanitary Street.
Apparently the residents were unhappy about the name so eventually the Council dropped the S and the RY and it became Anita Street. A neater name, I think.
A camera club outing to see the Martin Parr exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery. The exhibition featuring lots of his photographs taken in Manchester in the 70s and 80s . They invoked lots of memories, and remember when comments.
A quick lunch in the Art Gallery Cafe which was followed by a walk around the Northern Quarter and Ancoats areas.
A good day out.
Numbers at camera club have declined steadily over the last few years, and we no longer have our weekly meetings but I’d be happy for the club to continue having days out such as this.
