Ancient Crossing

Near the site of a Roman bathhouse, fort and road at Strathclyde Park. It is likely the Romans built the original bridge at this place

The present bridge is thought to date back to medieval times and restored by James, Duke of Hamilton in 17th Century.

The bridge over the south Calder was on a pack-horse route and has a cobbled road surface.
