Bong Bong Weir
More on the water theme, the Cecil Hoskins Nature Reserve is just 5 klms from work in Moss Vale. This area was part of the original settlement of the Southern Highlands.
Bong Bong Weir was built in the early 1920's and served initially as the water
supply to the people of Moss Vale. Water was drawn from a sump located adjacent to the weir wall, within the reserve. Trees in the vicinity were used as fuel for the pumps.
This is now a protected habitat home to the famous Ornithorhynchus anatinus (Australian Platypus) and some very rare native trees Eucalyptus macarthurii (Paddys River Box).
A special place.
