Postmarks

Kind relatives and friends always send me postcards from worldwide destinations. As a stamp and postcard collector it is interesting to study the marks as they vary widely in quality and style. Austrian and Swiss cards as seen here on card from daughter almost always have clear double ring cancels with legible dates and often an attractive tourist mark. Handstamping is rare now and machine cancelling can be obliterating, faint or illegible and of no interest . GB marks are now among the worst in the world. Collectors constantly complain about them especially when postal staff obliterate the stamp with a biro
