So this was taken first thing in the morning just as Joe's 'chill out pills' were kicking in. The anasthetic team were amazing; funny, calming, professional and Joe was out cold in seconds.
By 1pm they called to say that all the bones had been removed from his upper neck and that they were now going into the spinal cord. At 4pm they called to say that Joe was in recovery, chatting, moving all limbs and thankfully not on the ventilator or with a feeding tube as they'd anticipated.
The surgeons had to leave 30% of the tumour as it was too attached to healthy tissue and could have potentially caused damage to Joe's limbs, breathing etc if they'd tried to remove (due to the location). Biopsy back in about a week.
I'll be honest, it is amazing and wonderful to have Joe come back to us laughing, chatting and looking for rice crispies. Tonight he's in PICU drugged up to the eyeballs and we're all at home trying for a good nights sleep before we start the hard work.
Again, thank you all for your love and support. Beyond stupendous. Xxx
