Madame Doubtfire - the original Mrs Doubtfire

I remember when this up market gallery was the home of the original Madame Doubtfire shop, that was the name she had over the door. I remember it from the 60 's and 70's, but I think it was older than that.
It was a second hand shop of the kind that just doesn't exist today. She sold old clothes, bric a brac and household 'stuff' of all types. I was never brave enough to go much further in than the front door, but I remember the place being dark and smelly. She always sat out the front and I seem to remember had cats.
There aren't any shops like that any longer, I'm sure they were a health hazard and they were certainly a fire hazard.
I doubt if Mme even knew what she had in her shop, there were just piles of boxes with ' things ' heaped high in them.... and it was all dark beyond the entrance and a wee bit scarey for a young teenager in school uniform!
I always loved Stockbridge and combing through the second hand shops of St Stephens Street nearby, as well as exploring one of the earliest charity shops in Edinburgh, the Lifeboat shop in Raeburn Place, sadly it's no longer there.

Another busy day today started nicely with a Clarins massage appointment, then I walked home to see the girls albeit briefly.
Down to church where Kate and I did a power of clearing and setting up a "comments' board for congregational input to our search for a new rector. Back home in time for our vestry meeting and in amongst all that I still had time to do 17708 steps, 5 days done this week so target met, hooray!
