Studland ferry, Sandbanks beyond

These days have provided great light for photography at a distance - the ferry, seen across the Isle of Purbeck Golf Club must be at least five miles away

On the far bank is the Haven Hotel, site of Marconi's work in radio transmission.  In 1910 his system proved its worth in transmitting messages across the Atlantic to the passenger ship on which Dr Crippen was travelling, leading to his discovery and later execution.

(Dr Crippen was a notorious wife-murderer.)
