LINGHOLM AND DERWENTWATER
After a great recommendation from Trevorearthy we decided to go Lingholm Kitchen Gardens café in Keswick today and then a walk to the wooden cupped hands and onto the shores of Derwentwater.
Such a beautiful day. I got up early for me these days and left home about 8:45 am. The drive up through the lakes was stunning and the colours over the Lakes and the mountains was bright orange with tones of pinks. I wish now I'd stopped to take photos but I was hoping to get up to Derwentwater to catch those colours. We got a bit lost around Keswick as I'd never been to Portinscale, where Lingholm is before. As we were coming off the A66 we cold see fluffy mist rising from the lake, Great I thought. Sadly by the time we got there and parked that had all gone.
We had to force ourselves to have coffee and homemade rye sourdough toast before we commenced our walk. We walked through some beautiful fields and woodland always keeping to the path of course). Breathtakingly beautiful and still very frosty in places.
We arrived at the cupped hands and then just went onto the shore near there before turning round and coming back. This was really only because the car park said you were limited to 2.5 hours and were for visitors to Lingholm anyway. It had taken us an hour to get there, mostly because I kept stopping to take photos of course.
We did go back to the café for a beautiful piece of homemade quiche and tea before heading home.
We wondered around the walled garden and learnt all about Beatrix Potter's connections to Lingholm and that Squiggel Nutkin was written there.
Thank you Trevorearthy for the recommendation. We loved it and will go back, but will avoid when schools are out and in holiday season as it was fairly busy today, must get really packed at certain times. BEAUTIFUL.
The extra is of me at the cupped hands.
