Bike Tour - Day 4

Last day was planned 84km ride, however when we reached Ocean Beach Road (a gravel road on the beach) after 47km, the wind gusts on the beach were horrendous. With O being a novice, the thought of another 40 odd kms on a "road" neither of us knew and was not open to vehicles for some of it, was deemed unsafe, so we headed back the way we came. Options included riding 40km to Featherston and putting the bikes on a train but being a Sunday, we had no idea if/when the trains were even running. Opted instead to find cell phone coverage and telephone daughter H who had my car with the bike carrier attached and get her to head over to collect us. We then rode 12km in that direction and stopped at this corner and decided to wait there. All in all, a good decision (only cost me a dinner for daughter H and partner) and finished off a really awesome few days. Very proud of O who struggled only a couple of times and reckons it won't be the last time.
